6 Weeks
Addie, Jaymie and I went and saw the Doctor today for her 6 week check-up. I can't believe it has been 6 weeks already.
She had been in perfect health and hardly fusses. She weighed 10 lbs 12½ oz today. The only minor things that we have noticed with her is that her left eye sometimes gets crusty and will discreet a small amount of this yellow 'goo', and that the skin folds under her neck are a little red and irritated. But the Doctor assured us that both of these things are pretty typical an perfectly normal. The eye issue is due to a clogged tear duct, and will clear-up within the first year. The second, we just need to put a little diaper cream and blow-dry her neck after baths, which might be a challenge since she doesn't really have a neck yet.
It has been amazing to see just how quick a baby grows. It seems like yesterday that her little legs were bowed out and you couldn't straighten them, and many other little things that only a new parent would notice. A few things that I never knew about babies:
- How fun it is to watch them after eating, when they are all 'milk drunk'
- When she wakes up in the morning, she stretches and yawns like we all do
- Baby farts stink. Really, really bad
- How fun it is to be in public and told that we did a really good job
- How quickly a babies emotions can change. From whaling to sleeping in seconds
- I've heard the term 'loaded diaper', but I now know just how eye-opening it really can be
- The vast number of diapers that a baby goes through in the first few weeks. It's slowed down a bit, but there were many times where I had to do multiple 'one after another' changes
- Some morning she is congested and is very grunty. It's rather amusing
- How awesome it is to watch her smile when she is dreaming
Things she is doing now:
- Much more alert
- She will stare at light patterns on the wall/ceiling for 10 minutes or so
- She loves when I do my 'jazz hands' to practice her tracking. Jaymie always makes fun of me
- Sleeping much better at night
- Her legs are very active. She is building up those muscles for our first hike :)
- Eats very well
- Is no longer scratching at her face
